Wheel Night Out - Potter’s Wheel

Give it a spin!

Looking for something fun and new to try? This one night class is great for a date night, friend hang, family night out or trying something new on your own.​ We supply everything. Only 7 people in the class.

This class includes two hours of instruction where you will be guided through the basic steps of throwing on the potter’s wheel.

You won't have anything to take home because it’s wet clay. If you want your piece or pieces trimmed, bisque and glaze fired for pick-up 3 weeks later, the cost is an additional $10 per piece. (Pay at the end of class to your instructor. Cash or venmo preferred.)

What to wear to class:

• Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. We have aprons and the clay will wash out. But, if you’re heading to a fancy dinner after class, you might want to bring a change of clothes.

• Long nails are okay, but will make things a little bit harder!

• Long hair should be pulled back.

• It’s a good idea to remove any rings, watches or bracelets as well.

• No dangly necklaces! Or hoodie strings! As long as they’re tucked away, it’s all good.

Also!! If you’re instructor forgets to ask, please let them know if you’re left handed!

One Time Class Cancellation Policy:

Classes cancelled 7 calendar days or more prior to the class or event will receive a full refund or reschedule.

Cancellations received after this time - but at least 24 hours prior to the class - are not eligible for a refund, but may transfer to a different applicable class date (within 3 months of the original class date) or find a substitute student to take their place.

We will not refund or reschedule with less than 24 hours notice.

Fidget & Sensory Stones*

*Each person will make up to 5 fidget or worry stones in this class! Make them look like animals, just use texture and stamps, use a squeeze bottle of clay to create dots, or use your thumbprint to create the perfect divot. You can do just about anything!

Sculpt your own 3D miniatures! Use them as cute decor or glue a magnet to the back and use them on your fridge! Certain dates may have a special theme, but you can create your own theme if you’d like! Animals, gnomes, mushrooms, snowmen, favorite characters, ghosts - anything your heart desires! Possibilities are endless! Texture tools and creative ideas will give them a unique look! Then we'll paint them with fun colors.

Your creations will then be fired in the kiln and we’ll email when they’re ready for pick up in 3 weeks!

Create and paint your own handmade cow or bear!

We'll use various hand-building techniques to create your cow or bear! You’ll make the body of your animal from a slab of clay and template. Then we’ll add eyes, noses, ears, and all the other stuff. We’ll also be painting them!

Texture tools and creative ideas will give each one a unique personality!

Your creations will then be fired in the kiln and we’ll email when they’re ready for pick up in 3 weeks!

Create and paint your own handmade Bird Feeders to hang in your garden!

We'll use various hand-building techniques to create your Keepsake Box. You’ll receive a flat piece of clay and a template to cut out the pieces for either a 4 sided box, round, or heart shape. Texture tools and creative ideas will give them a unique look! Then we’ll paint them!

Your creations will then be fired in the kiln and we’ll email when they’re ready for pick up in 3 weeks!

We'll use various hand-building techniques to create your Michigan tile. You’ll start with a flat slab of clay and texture tools. We’ll use various sizes of Michigan shaped cookie cutters (Yes we have the UP too) to cut out the shape of Michigan to add to your tile. You can personalize it with many other texture, tools, cookie cutters, and letter stamps. You can put two holes into the top corners to make it hang or display it on a stand. You could even glue it to a piece of reclaimed Michigan wood. Lots of room for creativity here!

Your creations will then be fired in the kiln and available for pick up in 3 weeks.

We'll use various hand-building techniques to create your Noodle Bowl. You’ll start with a flat slab of clay and texture tools. You can personalize it with many other texture, tools, cookie cutters, and letter stamps. You’ll have the option to make holes in the top to hold chopsticks or create a small separate chopstick holder. Lots of room for creativity here! This class is NOT on the potter’s wheel.

Your creations will then be fired in the kiln and available for pick up in 3 weeks.

Create and paint your own handmade Fairy/Toad Houses! Use for your Fairy Garden for the current fairy population or use as a Toad House in your yard. Yes - toads will use them for shelter!

Perfect project for Adults, Kids, & Families! (Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult.) This project is not recommended for under 8 years old.

We'll use various hand-building techniques to create your very own, one of a kind mug. (This class is NOT on the Potters Wheel.) Mugs will be made by hand from rolled out slabs of clay. Texture tools and creative ideas will give each mug a unique personality! We won’t be painting in this class, to give plenty of time for mug creation! You’ll choose a glaze from our selection to finish off your masterpiece at the end of the class.

We’ll put it through its initial kiln firing, dip it in your selected glaze color, and then fire it again! We’ll email you when it’s ready for pick up in 3 weeks.

Create and paint your own handmade Funky Chicken, Penguin or Owl!

We’ll make these flowers so that you can glue a rod into the back. Then stake them into a planter pot or your garden!

Class Info

Join the fun this summer at Central Clay Studio for 2 clay camp sessions, ages 7-12 only.

Ages 7-12
Monday - Friday
10 students maximum

Session 1: July 6th - 10th, 1-4p
Session 2: Aug 3rd - 7th, 1-4p

Students will expand their imaginations and explore the exciting world of clay! Whether it’s coil pots, pinch pots, slab building or sculpture, students learn in a supportive and small class setting. (No Pottery Wheel time is offered in these camps.)

Students will explore working in clay. We will create a variety of projects and use different hand building techniques as well as painting their creations!

General Schedule:
1-2:15p – Clay Creations
2:15-2:45 - Snack Break and Sidewalk Chalk Outside in the Courtyard
2:45-4p - More Clay Creations and Activities

What Students Need:

• Each day students will have a snack break. Please send them with an appropriate (nut free) snack and water bottle.

• Clay is messy! We have aprons for students, but please send them in clothes and shoes that can get messy.

• If your child has long hair - please send a hair tie or clip with them

• Epi Pens/Inhalers or other emergency medicine, if needed.

Class Fee includes instruction, all supplies (clay, glazes, use of tools, etc.) and kiln firings.

Refunds or Changes
If an unforeseen circumstance were to arise and you would need to withdraw from a class, you can receive a refund up to 14 days prior to the first lesson, but must incur a $75 cancellation fee. We cannot provide refunds for class withdrawals less than 14 days from the start date, however, classes are transferrable. Please notify us if you would like to transfer the set of classes to another person to attend in your place before lessons begin. We do not prorate missed days.

These classes will introduce beginning potters to a wide range of handbuilding techniques and fun with clay! This class does NOT include time on the pottery wheel. We’ll explore pinch pots, coils, slab building, painting with a variety of fun projects.

Possible Projects Include: House, Snowmen, Funky Chicken, Gnome, Trees, Self portrait tile, Pinch Pot Creature/Character, Slab Built Creature/Character, Mini Animals, Fairy Door, Pinch Pot Cupcakes, Pumpkins, Coil Pot, Slab Built Box & Lid and much more
